As the sun rises in the east, yoga studios and participants from across the city will be joining in one large unified session at South Straub Park. Peace of Yoga is our yoga sponsor this year so please make sure to say thank you to Peace of Yoga for sponsoring this year's Sun Salutations! Every yoga business and their clients are welcome to come & join us for community yoga at no cost!

In addition to yoga, this year we will have special guest, Master Gary Grooms, hosting Tai Chi and Matt Bartlow of Gulf Coast Fit, Inc. hosting our  fitness boot-camp class.

This is just the beginning of a full day of Central Avenue Solstice activities and specials! After a wonderful morning of yoga, tai chi & fitness, several restaurants and cafes along Central Avenue will be featuring Sunny Side Up Breakfast and High Noon Lunch, leading into a cornucopia of art, four stages of live music, more food, and more drink, along the entire route of Central Avenue. The festivities will culminate with St. Petersburg Preservation’s special presentation of Movies in the Park in Sunset Park on the west end of Central Avenue.

Central Avenue Solstice is a new, exciting annual event for St. Petersburg, celebrating our city’s main thoroughfare (Central Avenue) and all that it has to offer with music, arts, food, drink, and activities. The event takes place on Saturday, September 24th from sunrise to sunset. This is the Saturday nearest to the day that the sun rises on the east end of Central Avenue, and sets on the west end at the beach. Central Avenue Solstice is also part of SPF-15, a two week festival celebrating all that is St. Petersburg, September 10th – 25th.

Central Arts District:

Central Arts Stage – Located at the Regions Bank parking lot to the left of Cycle Brewing (510 Central)

10am-11:15am - HEADLINER: Olivia Romano & George Pennington
Olivia's beautiful voice, accompanied by George Pennington on guitar, will bring you musical styles ranging from acoustic folk to soul busting blues.

11:30am - 12:45pm: The Joe Milligan Project
The Joe Milligan Project is a diverse cast of musicians whose individual credits include a career with the Florida Orchestra, shared billing with the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Wishbone Ash, Kris Kristofferson, Kansas, Brewer & Shipley and John Prine. The Joe Milligan Project has appeared live at popular local venues including Skipper’s Smokehouse, Sacred Lands, and The Ale and the Witch, and also regularly appeared on the Florida Folk Show on WMNF.
 


EDGE District: 

EDGE Stage – Located in parking lot between Creative Clay (1114 Central) & Bodega (1120 Central)

10:00am-11:15am – Jordan Esker of Jordan Esker & The Hundred Percent. Solo singer-songwriter, guitarist playing soul, folk, emo, and experimental.

A fresh take on traditional folk and bluegrass music and original songs that range from sweet ballads to the edgier side of contemporary Americana.

As a solo singer, Bustamante performs around town and hosts a Monday-night singer-songwriter night at the Ale and the Witch in St. Petersburg. With her jazz trio La Lucha, she re-interprets pop songs and standards. And her experimental project Noctambulois a fusion of garage punk and downtempo electronic beats.

1:00pm - 2:15pmElla Jet  
Ella Jet is a bright-eyed 18yr. old singer-songwriter who digs deep within her music and performs original songs about love, loss, and heartbreak in a style that is way beyond her years. Her debut CD "Black Wave Diary" will be released in 2016 featuring self revelatory songs “Sweet as Sanity”, “Dreamer” and “Sunflower”. 

2:30pm - 3:45pm – HEADLINER: Rebekah Pulley Duo
Rebekah has a jaw-dropping sultry, seasoned voice. Her music draws from roots-rock, blues, old-school country & western, jazz, and even gospel. A seven time Creative Loafing 'Best Of The Bay’ award winner.

West Central (Professional) Stage - Located at FreeFall Theater (6099 Central)

For sixty years fans have flocked to see The Florida Boys, the only male quartet that was consistently prominent from the 1950's to July 2007. With No. 1 hits like "Standing On The Solid Rock", "When He Was On The Cross, I Was On His Mind", "Lead Me To The Altar" and "I Lean On You Lord" this legendary group has recorded some 100 albums and attained a following of devoted listeners.

Great Explorations hosts Art & Science Activities for Kids!

10 am-2 pm (FREE) - Day's activities involve blending art, science and sensory explorations with a combination of interactive demos, hands-on activities and take-home crafts. Location (pending insurance) will be at the grass lot beside the Cappa/McKyton Law Firm (1229 Central Avenue).


NoMad Art Bus

Kids & adults alike love to paint. The Nomad Art Bus will stop at 4 locations along Central throughout the day. When the bus stops, it's time to paint!

The Rowdies street team will host this fun sports event located at (5960 Central) between 2-4pm. If you love foosball – this is a CAN'T MISS event!


Mural Tour

Bike & walking routes with a casual mural tour following Central Avenue showcasing all of the wonderful new murals created during SHINE the first week in September!


St. Petersburg Bicycle Club ­

The St. Petersburg Bicycle Club will start on east end @ South Straub Park at 9am following NAMASTE at Sunrise, ride west towards the beaches and then back east ending at South Straub Park.


Free Group Bicycle Ride ­

Family-friendly, casual riding along Central Avenue hosted by The Saint Petersburg Bicycle Cooperative (a wonderful volunteer organization dedicated to sharing bikes). The ride will begin at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club (559 Mirror Lake Drive North) at 5 pm and end at Sunset Park for Movie at Sunset Park (beginning at 6pm) (Park Street & Central Ave).


Coast Bike Share

Information booth for new bike share program will be located at The St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club (559 Mirror Lake Drive North)
